Senate Dems, GOP Susan Collins reject BBB amendment cutting Medicaid for illegal immigrants

An amendment that would have stripped some Medicaid funding from states that provide coverage to illegal immigrants has failed after it was unable to reach 60 votes. This comes as a marathon voting session is underway in the Senate in an effort to work through the Big Beautiful Bill.

43 Democrats and Maine Republican Susan Collins voted against the amendment, resulting in it not reaching the 60-vote threshold. Four Democrats sided with Republicans in voting for the amendment: Sens. Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Maggie Hassan.

Collins, Murkowski vote with Democrats on striking Planned Parenthood provision from GOP megabill

Republican Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) on Monday sided with Democrats who were trying to strike a provision from the GOP’s megabill that would bar Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving Medicaid funding for services provided to low-income women across the country.

The two were the only Republicans to vote for a motion to waive a budget point of order against an amendment to remove the provision. It was sponsored by Sen. Patty Murray (Wash.), the top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Medicaid Abuse documented by the Congressional Budget Office

Medicaid money is being given to private labor unions, hundreds of millions on house keeping services, paying off people’s student loans and more You heard that right, Democrats were using your Medicaid money to pay off student loans.

“Doctor Oz, the new Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, says they've already found billions in fraud that is substantially worse than the, my words, treasury rating that was going on at USAID. He says that this fraud is the greatest existential threat to the most vulnerable Americans - They found a billion dollars in Medicare funds spent to cover people registered in multiple states, but presumably only living in one - $200 million spent on housekeeping services in instead of health care - $10 million on student loans from Medicaid - $11 million was spent on child care benefits for labor unions.

They are private organizations, my friends. Is Medicaid money going to pay your babysitting costs? - $31 million just last week was stopped from going out the door in fraudulent spending. He says much of it is the result of organized criminal efforts, some from foreign nations. I think this might mean that if people stop stealing, these programs might actually not go bankrupt.”
